First week, Thursday

The peacock and peahen the neighbourhood feeds. They visit the garden of the residence I stay in on a regular basis.

This was quite a cool morning, coldest thus far. I am a Finn and should be used to temperatures below 5 Celsius degrees, but I really hate the cold...
The bus luckily got to the stop quite soon.

This day we got to see what goes on in the pastry side. The dessert menu for that day's Valentine's Day dinner service.

The pastry students were making fondant, marzipan hearts and meringues, for example.

The younger student and I got to make Millionaire's chocolate tart, similar to the one I had had at Starbucks the night before. Shortbread base, caramel which was blast chilled on the base so it set quicker and then milk chocolate and white chocolate on top. I hope it tasted delicious!

While the chocolate tart's caramel was setting, I got the chance to bake a Finnish spiced coffee cake. Normally I don't use butter in it, so it seemed like it hadn't set in the oven, but the next day I was told that the college's café had sold it all and people came back to compliment it! Score!

Lunch at the school canteen again, sausages, chips and baked beans. With ketchup and mayonnaise, because I can't have sausages or chips without any condiments :P

Before heading home, the teacher, who came with me and the younger student, wanted to have a drink with us at the pub next door, because she was heading back home the next day. In a way it kind of sucked that she had to leave, because I had never seen her so relaxed and laid back as she was that week. But then on the other hand it also meant that I could be a tad more relaxed, when there wasn't anyone breathing down my neck all the time, so to speak.

A very promising parcel was waiting for me when I got back home. My phone was here at last! I was so happy! I didn't have to take my tablet everywhere to snap pictures anymore!

Another delicious dinner with the family. Thus far I haven't had any bad food served to me, which is a very good thing. Even though almost everything is smothered with butter and gravy, it all tastes so delicious!

I borrowed the family's father's study and laptop to update my other blog. The family's cat came around to rub against my legs and beg for scratches. She kind of makes up for missing my own cat :)
