The last day at the college for now. Another lunch prep and service with students we'd already worked with. After this week the college had their half-term break, which was why we had work placement for the next two weeks.
The list of dishes that needed to be prepped.
I worked with the younger student, and we made butternut squash soup and croutons. The soup was blitzed in this awesome blender, which name I keep forgetting. It can tell whether the items inside it are hot or cold, and it has a built-in cook book with which you can make pureed dishes with the machine telling you how much of each ingredient you need and have in the jug.
After prep was over, we got an hour's break. I planned to go and have something to eat at the canteen and get the college wifi to work. 1. The canteen wasn't serving lunch yet. 2. The wifi passwords weren't working. I spent over half of my break going back and forth between reception and the IT department to get the wifi working.
Soon I had to head back to class.
Lunch service. Working with the deep fryer, again. We made fish and chips. It was messy and crowded. I still prefer working on my own.
After service we helped clean up. Washed dishes (it's still really weird that at the college chefs have to hand wash their dishes, the dish washer is reserved for dishes coming from the restaurant), cleaned work tops. Then we were dismissed.
Because I got my phone back, I had to go to town and get a prepaid SIM card to make using the phone easier and cheaper.
Three (which I am more familiar with as Tre from Sweden) had a deal that seemed like exactly what I needed: 300 minutes, 300 texts and as much data as you can use in 30 days for £20. I could use Google Maps, search for locations and information without having to rely to slow, crowded free wifi connections. I could find up-to-date bus schedules and directions with Google Maps, which I still am very thankful for!
We walked around and did a bit more shopping again, before heading back home.
Urban mallards :) they were fed by an employee of a nearby fast food place.
